sunburns

Have you ever gone on a science field trip? You know, one of those ones where you go waayyy out in the middle of nowhere to look at how the landscape was affected by a glacier 80,000 years ago. And of course you have to hike about a million miles to get up to the remote glacial feature, so that you can draw it with your absolutely stunning artistic skillz that are completely comprehendable to people who aren't you, and then you get to hike back down to the bus, which is parked about three miles away from where it dropped you off. And the whole time the sun is shining, and you're wearing a tank top and shorts, and carrying a backpack full of all the stuff on your teacher's list of necessities. And all this hiking and drawing and fun lasts about five hours (because the school day is seven and the bus ride was an hour both ways).
Yeah, so I went on one of those amazing field trips on Wednesday of this week, and guess what this genius forgot to do - put on sunblock.
I'm sooooo burnt. My new names at school these past two days have included not only the originals Lobster and Tomato, but also Heinz ('cause I'm as red as ketchup, apparently), Genius (for forgetting sunblock when I've lived in Montana for eleven years), and some other ones that I don't care to repeat.
But seriously, the skin on my shoulders is so badly burnt that the skin is cracking, and I can't move my right shoulder past neutral position or it stings like ****. My left shoulder isn't as bad, however, because the nerves are so dead I can hardly feel anything there at all. Although I can feel it when all the lovely people at school decide to see how I'll react when they hit me to see if it'll leave a mark.
Ahhh, I love them to death.
Well, actually, I do...just not when they do that *scowl* I'll really miss them when the year's over, which is only in less than two weeks (!!).
Anyways, yeah, I just wanted to share how stupid I was :P don't ever forget sunblock!!

my poem

We're in the middle of a poetry unit in my English class, which made me think that I want to share this poem that I wrote during last year's poetry unit:

Leafy trees, lush and green,
Set the stage for the jungle scene.
Off to the right, a contented purr.
Out of the forest cometh the predator.

Breathing deeply, scents flood his nose:
River water, droppings, and wild rose.
Prowling stealthily between the trees,
Panting in the heat of eighty degrees.

Sliding into the water, powerful strokes,
Propel him forward past the poisonous oaks.
Past the monkeys and the bright toucan birds,
Past the sprawling ant hill and the wild boar herd.

Powerful legs in fluid motion,
Swimming peacefully past the jungle commotion.
Hear the birds in the trees, their song melodic,
Here the tiger blends perfectly with the jungle exotic.

I fully realize that it's not great but it's probably the closest thing to word art that I've done, so please just be appreciative :)

my letter

When I was in sixth grade, I had a puppy-love fling with this kid named Brian. Of course it wasn't the best thing that's ever happened because we were only sixth graders, and in the end we weren't speaking. He disappeared in the middle of seventh grade, and I heard he moved to Oregon. Recently, though, he's been around again and a while ago I felt like writing a letter to him. At the time, I'd felt like using big words, as you'll see. Enjoy!
Most kind and emphatic Sir,
While in yesteryears I was utterly convinced that within the cavity set aside for such, you were in possesion of an ebony heart - if, indeed, one at all - I have revisited and explored those adventures in which we both took part, and upon reflection have decided that this party was most at fault.
If at any one point in the procedures had I but withdrawn and examined the situation, a whole bit of unnecessary and unlooked for suffering could have been allievated and prevented. Most unfortunately, such a fanciful proposition was never entertained and therefore did not come to pass. However, I feel rather pompous to be able to disclose that in retrospect I have arrived at various happy outcomes for all unpleasant encounters between these two parties. Said solutions require more time and space to divulge than available, but rest easy - if ever the desire to know of these solutions is felt, all one need do is inquire; I shall be more than happy to terminate such worries.
Moreover, if unsatisfaction with the current labyrinth unknowingly entered when thou returned from mysterious departure should arise, do not feel encumbered by such trifles as unseen society boundaries. Approach with openness and humility, with naught but truth on yonder lips, and the snowy cloth shall be welcomed and accepted. The following conversation shall be as friendly as I can find it within my own ebony heart to endure.
The purposes of such correspondence this day are to express the satisfaction felt on my part that I am revived, whole and sound (as much as any of our race is fit to be), from the incidents occurring in the sixth year of our formal education, and to extend a hand not unlike that extended to the oppressors in the year of our country's freedom.
For the experiences and wisdom gained of this all, I remain your loyal servant.
;)
